Meet Our Staff

John Power, Executive Director

John joined the Marin Villages Team as executive director in 2021 after three decades as a trusted authority and expert to local, state, and national nonprofit, government, corporate and private philanthropy leaders on community-building, nonprofit development, and volunteer engagement. For two decades he led The Volunteer Center in San Francisco and launched the national Board Match. Bay Area locally-grown, a graduate of UC Berkeley with an MBA from Santa Clara University, John lives in Kentfield with his partner of 25 years. An avid runner, he can be found on trails throughout Marin. Flag him down, he’ll be glad to stop and say “hello.”

B.J. (Barbara Jean) Slater, Membership Coordinator and Operations Manager
B.J. has a passion for encouraging and supporting older adults in living full and meaningful lives. She has been with Marin Villages since March 2017. B.J. came to us after working as a Sober Companion, coaching adults in the early stages of recovery. She has worked in a wide range of arenas as Event Coordinator and Area Director for non-profits to Project Manager for Ethan Allen. B.J. received her BA in Psychology from Dominican College in San Rafael. BJ currently enjoys spending her free time with her husband hiking the trails of Marin and working in their vegetable garden.

Danielle Farley, Communications and Fund Development Manager
Danielle wrangles words and develops content strategy, all in the name of clear, efficient communication. Past experience in nonprofit development taught her that she might not like asking individuals for lots of money, but she can't resist planning a good fundraiser. Now she focuses her energy on supporting Marin Villages’ efforts in both communications and fund development, as well as community outreach and marketing. If she could be out traveling the world full-time, she would do it in a heartbeat. But life keeps her exploring closer to home most of the time.

Matthew Dawe, Volunteer Manager

Matthew was born and raised in San Francisco, yet has spent much of the time throughout his life in Marin, where his extended family resides. His global explorations solidified his love of travel and experiencing new cultures, as well as affording him the ability to connect with anyone in a meaningful, productive way, regardless of their background. Most recently, Matthew has acted as the Social Media Co-Lead of Content at the San Francisco Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to keeping our oceans and coastlines clean and pulsating. His hobbies include anything basketball, classic films, and eating sushi.

Karin Tucker, Member and Volunteer Support Representative

Karin was raised in Santa Rosa and has lived in Marin for nearly 30 years. She graduated from the University of San Francisco with a BS in Accounting. She began her career with the accounting firm Arthur Andersen, where she met many of her current friends, as well as her husband. She has four young-adult children, and has been active in her children’s schools and sports, as well as St. Anselm Church in San Anselmo and StoneTree Golf Club in Novato. She loves family time, traveling, golfing anywhere, snowboarding in Tahoe, and Mahjong with girlfriends.

Melinda Oliveri, Member and Volunteer Support Representative

Melinda was born and raised in Ventura, CA and has lived in Marin for 22 years. She graduated from the University of San Francisco/Academy of Art, with a BFA in Advertising Design. From 1995-2007, she worked as an Escrow Officer for Fidelity National Title in San Francisco and Marin before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She has two young adult children in college and currently lives in Novato with her husband and German Shorthaired Pointer, Axel. She started as a volunteer for Marin Villages when her youngest was leaving for college where she fell in love with working with older adults in the community. She loves soccer, hiking with her dog, spending time with friends, listening to audio books/podcasts and exploring all genres of music.
