Step back in time on B Street, without needing a time machine! Join Marin historian Marcie Miller for a casual stroll down B Street’s memory lane, back when the street was lined with fancy mansions, busy businesses, and probably at least one person dramatically fainting over a scandal. This 45-minute, 5+ block docent-led tour kicks off at the San Rafael Community Center in the back parking lot. Along the way, we will uncover the former site of early businesses and hear how Prohibition actually played out in San Rafael (spoiler: people did not suddenly become big fans of water). Expect ambition, intrigue, transformation…and the occasional story that will make you say, “Wait, that happened here?” Come explore the rich past hiding in plain sight and see B Street in a whole new way—because history is way more fun when the gossip is 100 years old! Note: There are few, if any, places to rest on this walk.
